What I’ve learned, recording EP #3
So I just finished recording all the major parts for this new EP. Whew. Drums, bass, horns, percussion, guitar, organ, piano, wurlitzer, rhodes, violin, backup vox. Pretty sweet
Things I’ve learned:
-Surround yourself with really amazing people. I can’t tell you how much of a difference it made having an AMAZING producer there by my side through the whole process, overseeing every detail. Thinking everything through. Thank God for Kevin Rivers. And every musician on the album is superb!!! If I could give any advice, its to make sure that the people that you work with have the SAME VISION as you. Start from the beginning with a talk about where you want the album to go, the direction, the feel, the statement.
-Feed people
ha. I’ve got to tell you, having food at the studio and at practice made everyone SOO much happier. ha. Its the way to a man’s heart, it WORKS!
-Make sure that you plan out every step ahead of time, make a timeline with goals and dates. If we hadn’t done that, this whole project would have never happened.
-PRE-PRODUCTION. Practice. Make sure you have the music down before stepping into the studio. Take the time to organize everything, the rehearsals, the studio time, the meetings, the duplication….
-Most of all, HAVE FUN. Being in a studio for a designated amount of time can definitely get stressful and sometimes overwhelming. You just have to remember to be thankful and appreciative and savor every moment
Some words of wisdom. Adios for now
